Adirondack Balloon Festival to be held Sept. 20 through 23 | Events

The Adirondack Balloon Festival has announced this year’s festival will be held on Sept. 20 through the 23.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the festival and there will be a dozen special shape balloons, the most in the festival’s history.

“Betty Jean,” a balloon butterfly will make her debut at this year’s fest.  She was built in 2011 and has begun to make appearances across the country.

Other balloons that will be featured in the festival include “Spyder Pig” and “Lily.”  Below is a schedule:

Thursday, September 20           CRANDALL PARK, CITY OF GLENS FALLS

4:30-6:30 pm                Music and Band Performance

5:00 pm                        Opening Ceremonies –Acknowledgement of 40th Anniversary

5:15 pm                        Launch of special shape “BIRTHDAY CAKE” balloon followed by launch of 20 balloons

6:00-9:30 PM                City of Glens Falls Block Party featuring

Walk-about balloon, balloon baskets on display, car show, kid’s activities and FIREWORKS!

Friday, September 21                FLOYD BENNETT MEMORIAL AIRPORT – QUEENSBURY

            3:00 pm                         Gates Open, Craft Fair and Food Vendors open for business

5:00 pm                                    Balloon Launch – 80+ balloons including special shapes

                                    BATTLEFIELD PARK- LAKE GEORGE VILLAGE

8:00 pm                                    MOONGLOW at the lake, followed by fireworks

Saturday, September 22                        FLOYD BENNETT MEMORIAL AIRPORT – QUEENSBURY

            5:00 – 11:00 am                        “Big Balloon Breakfast” – Airport Hangar

6:00 am -7:00 pm  Food vendors open for business, Craft Fair with 30+ vendors, Kids activities, including bounce houses, rock climbing wall, aircraft static display   

            6:30 am                                    Flight of 100 Balloons, including more than 10 special shapes

            2:00 – 5:00 pm              Performance by Jonathan Newell band

            5:00 pm                                    Flight of 100 Balloons, including more than 10 special shapes

            7:00-9:00pm                 Live music featuring the Jonathan Newell Band

            8:00 pm                                    “40 for 40” MOONGLOW, up to 40 balloons illuminate the night
